He is an innovative exponent of the bansuri (a side-blown bamboo flute). His distinctive style, informed by a detailed study of vocal technique, has been described as enchanting, haunting and mesmerizing.

He is known for his diverse musical explorations and has seamlessly blended tradition with modernity, captivating audiences worldwide with his expressive mastery of the bansuri.

Symphony of Bansuri is a new production featuring a range of Indian classical ragas, folk, film and light classical music compositions rearranged for orchestra, with the bansuri as the main solo instrument.

The production is crafted in a way that showcases the bansuri as a complete instrument performing various genres with the common thread of an orchestra supporting it. Rakesh has embraced the weight of his illustrious lineage while forging his own artistic identity.

Rakesh Chaurasia is a child prodigy and the nephew of flute maestro Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia. As the most accomplished of disciples of his uncle, he shows all the promise to carry the Chaurasia legacy to new heights.

Rakesh has travelled the world, enthralling audiences at classical and semi-classical concerts on every continent. He is also an accomplished musician having recorded with most of the leading stalwarts of the Indian film industry. He performed in the celebration of Queen Elizabeth’s Silver Jubilee, a 24-hour concert broadcast live on BBC radio. Despite his experimental work, Rakesh has never deviated from his main goal of becoming a full-fledged classical musician. He has regularly appeared in prominent festivals like WOMAD festival in Athens, ‘Festivals of India’ in Russia, Japan, USA and Europe.

His growing maturity and status earned him invitations to perform solo at major events within India and abroad, such as the Festival of Saint-Denis in Paris, Leicester International Music Festival in England, Festival of Sacred Music in Fez, and Cape Town International Jazz Festival.

Rakesh Chaurasia won two Grammy Awards in 2024 - Best global music performance of the song Pashto and the other for the Best contemporary instrumental album, As We Speak with Bela Fleck, Edgar Meyer and the late Ustad Zakir Hussain.

His orchestral appearances include performances with Symphony Orchestra of India, National Youth

Orchestra of Germany, and BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra.
