Built for the 2010 FIFA World Cup, the stadium hosted the main two major events, the opening ceremony, and the final match of the tournament. Being a football and Rugby union stadium, it is now home to the Kaizer Chiefs F.C.
Designed to look like a Calabash (an Africa pot), the fire and earth stone cladding represents a flame effect burning under the pot. Located out on the outer skirts of the city, the stadium borders Soweto.
